Her survey of a vacant Cleveland building inspired her debut\, The Dead Key\, winner of the 2014 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. Her Rust Belt mysteries and thrillers have since sold more than 800\,000 copies worldwide. \nJoin us as Pulley reveals the real Cleveland history\, abandoned landmarks\, and haunted legends behind her newest Gothic thriller\, Stone Mad. \nFranklin Castle (the Hannes Tiedemann House) and the long-lost Everett Mansion of Millionaire’s Row both helped shape the novel’s mysterious Stone Mad Castle. \nThe Cleveland Stories Dinner Party series brings Cleveland’s most fascinating stories to life\, from sports and rock ‘n’ roll to Millionaire’s Row. DESCRIPTION:I’m excited to be hosting this Cleveland Stories Dinner Party at the Music Box Supper Club\, featuring author Dave Eifert. \n“Grandpa\, why do the Browns always lose?” \nEvery Browns fan has asked some version of that question. Bay Village author Dave Eifert thinks he has the answer: the team is cursed. \nHis debut book\, Cleveland Curse\, Volume 1\, goes back to December 26\, 1964\, the night before the Browns’ last championship win. Art Modell meets a well-dressed stranger with papers to sign that will guarantee a victory the next day. What did he really agree to? \nDave showed promise as a writer in college but chose engineering instead\, spending decades in technical sales\, marketing and management. Years of Browns-induced frustration finally pushed him to write\, and nearly a decade later\, this book is the result. \nThe event is free but reservations required.

DESCRIPTION:This is the complicated story of one Cleveland neighborhood that\, in many ways\, reflects the history of the entire city. Cleveland’s Near East Side was a place of remarkable contradictions. Millionaires’ Row stood only blocks from crowded tenements\, gambling houses\, brothels\, and speakeasies. During Prohibition\, vice and corruption helped earn the neighborhood a nickname that stuck: the “Roaring Third.” Eliot Ness battled its underworld\, while the nearby ravines became forever associated with the still-unsolved Kingsbury Run murders. \n\n\nBut the Roaring Third was never simply a neighborhood of crime and vice. \n\n\nIt was home. Generations of immigrants built lives there\, followed by Black families arriving during the Great Migration\, who built communities and political power even as many faced discrimination and were confined to increasingly overcrowded and deteriorating housing. Freeways eventually cut through its streets. Urban renewal erased entire blocks. Disinvestment took its toll. Yet people and institutions endured. \n\n\nThat is the story I want to tell—not just what happened in the Roaring Third\, but what it was like to call it home.
